Sydney CBD...a city with such a pretty setting, but I often find its canyons very sombre.
Who says deux ex machinas don't happen?
At one scriptwriting workshop, I was told to eliminate any deux ex machinas (i.e. unlikely plot contrivances) from my story. Like the one in the original third act where the protagonist, while being chased by truckies in the middle of the night, bumps into her ex, who's cycling to the Arafura games in Darwin. I was told such things would never happen...after all, how likely is it that you would meet someone you knew on the North Stuart Highway?
I felt it was reasonably likely, and that I may well have passed someone I knew, driving to Tennant, tho I couldn't recall any specific instances. I do regularly bump into people from Alice in other parts of Australia...last Christmas holiday, I passed a cyclist in an Alice Springs club jersey on the road down to Camden. This year I ran into Super Helen, water quality engineer and cycling grrl extraordinaire, at Central station. (I've offered her a part as an extra, and possibly a stunt double, in my film.)

Another interesting Sydney establishment...Gillian introduced me to the Homemade Noodle Shop in Haymarket.
Here's the exciting ceiling...and the noodlemaker below.
Oh, that's the halal place near UTS, isn't it... ? I think I recognise that ceiling. Nice to see you in Sydders. Coy

I'm not sure that it's that close to UTS...it's more in the Haymarket area, near the old Chinese garden thing.
Nice to see you, too. Sorry I was so out-of -it.

Finally back on the internet and catching up on my reading. I loathe the canyons around the stock exchange, especially on those sparkling sydney sundays when they are made all the more bleak by the rest of sydney's brilliance. i often walk through them out of hours, and they're frankly depressing. where are all those quirky bars that inhabit melbourne's laneways?

Yes, indeed!
