Jeez but you write great big nuggety posts. Something in there for everyone.

On the sadness front, I did feel real (if momentary) sadness as a South Australian when I heard that Janine Haines died. She realyl was too young.

How well I remember her losing tooth and nail scrap with Gordon Bilney who went on to rise to the dizzy heights of 'Defence Science and Personnel Minister' in the Keating Ministry. Before he lost about two terms later.

Apparently he answered a complaining letter from an (ex) constitutent by saying: 'one of the few good things about no longer being in Parliament is that I no longer have to be polite to pricks like you.' Which is funny, if nothing else...

Yeah, good ol' Janine, she was one of the good Dems before the Dems got all glamorous and silly. (Well, except for some of the frumpy, GST dealing Dems.)

Really think I should edit some of my longer posts into smaller posts but am often too lazy (or too hurried) to do so. Perhaps the media release writing hasn't paid off, after all.

Ha ha, was it Bernard Shaw who said "apologies for the long letter, I didn't have time to write a short one"?

I loved Janine too. Easy in retrospect to say the Democrats went into a downward spiral after she left; but just because it's easy doesn't mean it's wrong! Now you mention it you're spot on with the Dustin in Tootsie similarity!
